SEU's Master of Divinity (MDiv) program equips students to work in full-time professional ministry, as pastors, missionaries and military chaplains. Your course work — totaling 72 credit hours in all, or three years of full-time study — will encompass an in-depth study of the Bible, theology and practical ministry. Specific topics covered include the Greek language, the Old Testament and New Testament, ecclesiology, systematic theology, pastoral counseling, historical theology, world religions, ethics, philosophy, preaching and leadership. These classes, combined with a practicum, a thesis or electives, will give you the skills and understanding necessary to gain your ordination credential (for those working in religious denominations requiring it) as well as to pursue advanced study in a doctoral program. Under the guidance of professors with extensive experience in pastoral ministry, missions and chaplaincy, you can benefit from both the convenience of online learning and the face-to-face interaction of on-campus classes, as the MDiv is offered in a flexible delivery format. For graduates of and current students in SEU’s MAML or MATS programs, as well as transfer graduate students with ministry degrees, the MDiv is a natural next step; up to 48 transfer credit hours can be accepted toward your MDiv at SEU, meaning you could complete the program in just 18–24 months, depending on how many courses you’ve already completed.
